The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Georgia held the concluding event of the information campaign – “Do Not Deprive Childhood” aimed at elimination of early child marriage cases, awareness raisin regarding the mentioned issue and targeting the promotion of timely police reporting on similar crimes.
The event was attended by representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sectors, Public Defender's Office and international organizations operating in the mentioned field.
Giorgi Osadze, Director of Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lela Bakradze, Head of the UNFPA Office in Georgia, and Nina Khatiskatsi, Head of Networks of Centers for Civic Engagement addressed the invited guests with welcoming speeches.
At the event, Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made a presentation, through which the guests were informed regarding the activities implemented within the frames of the campaign.
The information campaign lasted for two months. Employees of the Human Rights Monitoring and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with representatives of partner agencies and organizations, held thematic meetings with various target groups in Tbilisi and regions of the country.
Within the frames of the campaign, several informational videos were produced, in which the strict policy of the state against child marriages pursued by various relevant agencies was highlighted and emphasized the coordinated work between the agencies.
Target booklets and posters were also printed in Georgian, Azerbaijani and Armenian languages, which were distributed to school administrations and other interested organizations / individuals during the campaign.
At the final event, the winners of the announced photo contest were named who were awarded accordingly. In addition to the mentioned, a thematic video presentation was also held.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched information campaign – “Do Not Deprive Childhood” in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Georgia under the auspices of the United Nations Joint Program on Gender Equality, funded by Sweden. The campaign was also supported by the Arbiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) and the Networks of Centers for Civic Engagement.
